Best of T-Shirt Designs (0)
Published on December 18th, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
Yes my friends, I have a 2-for-1 for you on this one. Since we’re nearing the end of the year, we have reached that time for all of the “best of” lists. I would bet big money that many of my fellow t-shirt bloggers are preparing their best of t-shirt designs for the year right now. There is nothing wrong with that because I’m really looking forward to them. However, in the mean time, two major design blogs have beat them to the punch and they picked some good ones.
Abduzeedo went for the bright colors in their 50 Best T-Shirt Designs of 2008. The artwork printed on these t-shirts is unreal. I recognize the majority of them, but there were some gems that I’d never seen before.
Inspiredology also went with the magic number of 50 in their 50 Terrific Tees for 2008. The list was dominated by Design by Humans and followed up with Johnny Cupcakes. It is well worth the look.
Tank Theory Has Some Serious Art (1)
Published on December 12th, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
Tank Theory is an online shop with a focus on art, and not the novelty or humorous kind. They have what they call The Artist Society with the premise of providing real artists a t-shirt canvas to go wild on. There was one design that really caught my eye because I can’t imagine how advanced the print has to be.
The name of the design is Guardo da Mignotta and it was created by Alberto Seveso. It is a mixture of figural photography, and what appears to be vector graphics. They work seamlessly together, to complete a female’s face. What’s even more interesting is that it uses water-based inks, adding to the complexity of the print. I have got to get one of these to see it in person.

Published on December 3rd, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
Thanks to Liz at Pop Culture Tees, I was alerted to a t-shirt blog post at a major design blog. The name of the post is 6 Great Tips on How to Prepare Artwork for T-Shirt Printing, and it came by way of the design blog – Just Creative Design. I love seeing these kind of posts at bigger blogs outside of our niche because it just sheds more light on the t-shirt world. It is a great little tutorial/resource for t-shirt designers and those looking into printing t-shirts:
Go Media and the 47 Essential Resources (0)
Published on November 24th, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
Most of you are familiar with Go Media and their design blog – GoMediaZine. They burst onto the scene a few years ago and have really set the pace at being a premier design agency. One of their fortes is t-shirt design, as they are regular winners at t-shirt design contests and provide design for some of the biggest bands and brands. They regularly blog about t-shirt related subjects and provide templates for independent designers, along with multiple, useful vector packs.
In a nutshell, if you haven’t read between the lines yet, they are at the forefront of the t-shirt community. Undoubtedly, this was a major linkbait piece, but a very useful one nonetheless. They have certainly earned a link and referral for this one. Click on the screenshot below to go to the article, 47 Essential Resources for T-Shirt Designers.
Tips on Designing Logos for T-Shirts (0)
Published on November 18th, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
Since our last post was about an interview with a t-shirt designer, I thought it would be appropriate to point you in the direction of some good t-shirt design tips. This post is more specifically about designing logos for yourself or clients that are going to be printed on t-shirts. Even if you don’t do a lot of logo design, you can still gain a few good tips about overall t-shirt design.
This post comes from a very strong design blog, called myInkBlog, and they focus on design as a whole (not just on t-shirts). The title of the article is Logo Design With Apparel In Mind and it is well worth the read.
Abduzeedo T-Shirt Design Contest (1)
Published on November 12th, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
One of our favorite design blogs, Abduzeedo, has recently started a t-shirt design contest. The theme for the contest is pretty simple with the designs needing to relate to Space and/or Abduction. The t-shirt printer for the project is Spreadshirt because they are one of the sponsors of the contest. They are about to have their hands full with some difficult prints, because the random examples shown are about as technical as they can get (especially on dark t-shirts). Good luck to all those who enter the contest and even more luck goes out to Spreadshirt for taking on these prints.

Cool Artwork Tutorial for T-Shirt Printing (0)
Published on November 7th, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
We spent so much time looking at t-shirts, and the designs that go on them, we feel it’s important to learn more about the process. One of the things that we always thought was fascinating about t-shirt printing, was how the artwork went from the computer screen to the t-shirt. This artwork tutorial from VectorTuts explains and visualizes the artwork part of the process called “color separations”.
The tutorial shows step-by-step how to take vectored artwork in Adobe Illustrator and create your own color separations. Why is this important? The main reason they push for t-shirt designers to do this themselves before sending the artwork to a printer, is to proof their work. They mentioned a few telltale signs went looking at the separations to determine if a mistake was made in the final draft of the t-shirt design.
It is definitely worth a look and even a try if you have some artwork in Illustrator to play with.
Creative Magic for Electric Zombie (0)
Published on October 31st, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
I understand not all of you care about the design portion of the t-shirt making process. It is a part that I am hooked on because that is where the magic happens. I want to feature a video about creating an Electric Zombie design so you can see the creative process unfold.
In the video Ray Frenden is working on doing an illustration for the clothing line “Electric Zombie”. EZ’s creative director, Kyle, told Ray to go wild and come up with a rough sketch that he thought fit with the company image. Ray came up with a great initial zombie design and the rest of the video takes us through the process of editing and altering that design to get it to the final product that would appear on the shirts.
One of the most fascinating decisions made comes early on in the tutorial in which Ray decides that in order to fill some ‘negative space’ (empty area) he needed to add a spinal column. This idea was then altered to change the spinal column from a veiny structure to one with wires running through it.
Be sure to check out this great tutorial. Not only will you have fun illustrating a zombie, but you’ll get to learn tons of new stuff about color choices, halftones, layering, and shadows.
Abduzeedo T-Shirt Inspiration (1)
Published on October 30th, 2008. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design.
T-shirts are getting so easy to obtain. It’s almost like they aren’t even illegal anymore…oh wait, they aren’t. As you are well aware, I am a t-shirt addict. Part of that addiction is fed with sick designs that are thought provoking and highly skilled. The simple text t-shirt just doesn’t give me my fix anymore, no matter how clever the saying is. I cruise the graphic design blogs all the time just looking for a t-shirt nugget that they rarely disperse. That wasn’t the case with Abduzeedo. This blog brought it with its t-shirt inspiration post full of t-shirt designs.
This graphic design blog will occasionally do t-shirt posts but they mainly focus on all things related to design. Check them out when you get a chance.
