Zombie Licorice Interview at Coty Gonzales (2)

Published on December 23rd, 2008. By , under General.

For anyone out there listening to the Taddict and is thinking about starting a t-shirt line or currently have a brand new line…..listen to me closely. You have to pay attention to Coty Gonzales’ Indie Tee Spotlight series or you are missing out. There is a lot of information to be learned from the guys/gals that have already been down the entrepreneurial path and can take you to school on their experiences. I have covered previous Spotlights he has run before and will continue to in the future.

At the very least, if you think you already have everything down and you are doing good….these interviews can inspire you to grind harder. The newest one is with Zombie Licorice and it should be the next place you visit on the interweb. Just click on the picture to make your way over to Coty’s spot:

Troundup Gets a Makeover (1)

Published on December 16th, 2008. By , under General.

This is a subject that I just couldn’t let slide by, I had to write about it.  It makes me get a little teary eyed when I see the t-shirt blogging community helping each other out.  I may be going a little far by exaggerating about the tears, but I do think it’s a pretty cool pairing.  Troundup felt like it was time to add a little polish to their site and they went to none other than Liz at Pop Culture Tees.  And just like she did with her own site…she did a fantastic job.

As a sidenote, I know what us t-shirt bloggers are making and its pennies per hour.  I always like to see a fellow blogger scrounging up the dough to further their passion.  If you don’t have Troundup in your RSS reader, you definitely should add them.

Who Is Going to Make this T-Shirt? (2)

Published on December 7th, 2008. By , under General.

In case you missed Saturday Night Live last night, they had a very funny video that will be as popular as D**k In a Box. You might even could call this one D-In-A-Box 2.0…..watch it and then start the artwork for a t-shirt.

I am not sure how long YouTube will be allowed to keep the video up, so if it is down and you are searching the interweb for it…..search – “Jizz in My Pants“.

Go Media Vector Packs Are the Truth (1)

Published on December 4th, 2008. By , under General.

I know that title sounds a lot like I am going to set you up for an affiliate post, but that is hardly the case.  I was just casually browsing the Internet at some of my favorite sites and read a post by 5 Ones about the Grenade Gloves shoes coming out in Spring ’09.  They definitely look cool, but that isn’t why I am posting about shoes on a t-shirt blog.

The reason I am posting about the shoes is twofold.  For one, I am a fan of the brand because I can appreciate the creativity with their whole theme of being grenade/military related. The main reason however, was that I immediately recognized part of the artwork on the shoes and it surprised me a little. They definitely used clip art from a Go Media wings vector pack.  Don’t believe me?  Take a look for yourself:

There is a slight change in the circle, but the wings are the same and the overall look is undeniable.  I know some will frown upon this because the artwork wasn’t created from scratch, but I would like to point out the positive.  I just want the up-and-coming t-shirt designers and clothing line creators to see that they have access to some of the same resources as the big dogs.

I also want to give props to Go Media for continually pumping out solid vector packs that are good enough to be considered in major clothing lines.  And for the record, I will be buying a pair of these shoes at launch.  ;)

Pop Culture Tees Does It Again (1)

Published on November 19th, 2008. By , under General.

We all suffer from our fair share of filler posts in the world of t-shirt blogs.  About the only way to get past the rut of short and simple posts is to really sit down and take some time.  Liz at Pop Culture Tees just did exactly that.

The concept behind her post is How to Make Your T-Shirt Shop Stand Out and Sell More.  This is definitely a subject matter that could have been broken up into multiple post to drag it out longer, but she knocked it out…all in one punch.  She broke it down into a very readable format, included real world examples, and provided pictures to illustrate everything.  The t-shirt industry just got better today.

Props go out to Liz for her hard work; so please take a moment to get schooled in the t-shirt shop basics.

Resources on How to Start a T-Shirt Line (1)

Published on November 5th, 2008. By , under General.

I have been wanting to write an in-depth post about the various resources that I have come across on the Internet for starting a T-shirt line.  These different resources vary from a blog post series, a blog devoted to the subject, and an e-book that has just gone live for sale.  There is definitely a demand for the subject and we are glad to see that people searching on the internet will have options for education on the process.

While there are probably many more options than we are going to write about, we wanted to share three completely different resources as examples of ways the subject can be tackled.  Please share with us in the comments section any other t-shirt line resources so that we can start a growing list.

T-Shirt Line Ebook

Gino Orlandi, the owner of multiple successful blogs ranging from overall design to t-shirt design has just compiled a very lengthy e-book on “How to Start a T-Shirt Line”.  The table of contents looks very promising, and the sheer length of the e-book should indicate that there are quite a few nuggets within. The book is on sale for $37, and it wouldn’t take much to be worth that amount as an investment for your t-shirt line’s future.

The only concern I have, and this was also brought up at the T-shirt Review Blog, is the experience by the author of actually starting a t-shirt line. He actually has a t-shirt store with Big Cartel but all of the products are listed as “Coming Soon”.

Nevertheless, the proof will be in the pudding, and we will just have to wait for the reviews to find out.

How to Start a Clothing Company Blog

The “How to Start a Clothing Company” blog is the brainchild of Jonathan Kruse and he is the owner of Mediocore Clothing. This blog is put together very well and provides some real-world insight with interviews from independents who have started t-shirt companies.

The major benefit to this site is the price you pay to get all of the information.  That price is $0.  It covers some of the business aspects, and even gets some opinions and information from the heavy hitters in the t-shirt industry like Threadless.

A must-read in our opinion because you have nothing to lose.

How to Start a T-Shirt Line Series from You Design It

You Design It is a t-shirt screen printing company that has a t-shirt design blog and they are in the process of doing a series on how to start a t-shirt line.  This series is obviously in its early stages and is probably the least in-depth.  We still recommend visiting it and adding the blog in your feedreader, because hopefully they will add more information in the future.

There you have it, three completely different resources on the same subject matter.  All three provide a different angle and should be used in collaboration.  Please include any others in the comments section that you are aware of and we didn’t cover so that we can start a growing list.

Bar Trekkin for a Limited Time (0)

Published on November 2nd, 2008. By , under General.

We just receieved an email saying that the infamous Bar Trekkin t-shirt from Go Ape T-Shirts is being forcefully removed from the site. The email didn’t elaborate on why they have to take them or down or why they would be able to sell them from Wednesday. Nevertheless, you can’t get these tees before they are gone on Wednesday.

I wish we could find out what the reason for removal is. I would guess it has something to do with trademark infringement but it would be interesting to see who is making the claim and on what grounds…..

Obama style "hope" t-shirt design turns into Star Wars t-shirt design (0)

Published on October 7th, 2008. By , under General.

This Star Wars version was originally done as a mashup poster of an original Barack Obama poster design by Shepard Faire (pictured top). Now after some request this remake has become a product on zazzle as a t-shirt. Pretty cool, what do you think?
