Johnny Cupcakes X Ferris Bueller (1)
Published on October 1st, 2009. By The Taddict, under Johnny Cupcakes.
Johnny Cupcakes done did it again. They took a reference to an old school movie classic and made it their own. This time it was with Ferris Bueller Day’s Off and the “Save Ferris” campaign. This time the remix calls for saving Johnny.

And in related news, the T Addict recently read a funny graph illustrating the relevancy of Ferris Bueller to high school students over the years. Apparently, the guy is timeless and stays cool. Let’s hope Johnny can do the same….

See GoMedia’s Design Process (0)
Published on September 24th, 2009. By The Taddict, under Go Media.
GoMedia gives us a little looksy into their design process with their latest blog installment. This post is the beginning of a series on a sick metal band design and gives us a short summary of what is to come. We will be tuned in and give you a head’s up if they spit some linkworthy nuggets on t-shirt designing.
Shirtfight Changes and The T Addict Applauds (1)
Published on September 22nd, 2009. By The Taddict, under Cool Sites.
Shirtfight is changing and for a very interesting reason. They recently announced they were changing their business model as well as announcing what the new concept will be. You really need to go to their blog post to feel the sincerity of their reasons. Essentially, they don’t feel like they’re fostering the growth of artists in the way they had envisioned in the beginning.
This is probably the first time I have heard this argument coming from a business owner(s) and not the designer. T-shirt design contests have been popping up left and right and I think we can all agree that the market has reached saturation. However, no one forces a designer to submit his work. It’s a great open forum to receive criticism, praise, and possibly some financial gain. These sites have served as a springboard for quite a few designers that have now become very familiar names within the t-shirt design community. A few wins at sites like Threadless or Design By Humans can guarantee you a few easy layup wins at the smaller sites.
With all of that said, the reason why the T Addict loves the idea to change for Shirtfight is simple. It’s time for change. It is time for new t-shirt sites to quit copying Design by Humans and Threadless and start figuring out ways to capitalize on all of the overlooked artwork that deserves printing. Shirtfight might have just found it’s way.
Jeffrey Kalmikoff Is Nude Again (2)
Published on September 16th, 2009. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt News.
Does the T Addict have some Threadless fans as readers? I think I just might. If you are a Threadless lover, keep reading. If not, keep reading. The Chief Creative Officer for Threadless as of the last 7 years, Jeffrey Kalmikoff, resigned last month. So…if he resigned last month, why am I posting about it now you ask?
Two main reasons. The first is because I just became aware of it. The second and more importantly is because he was just accepted a major position at the all-star tech company of Digg. This is a major announcement for both Digg and the t-shirt community because it adds to our credibility and growing strength.
Is that egocentric of me to figure how his gain can be attributed to us, the t-shirt addicts? If you think so, then good for me.
Matthew Skiff Interview at Vectortuts (0)
Published on September 14th, 2009. By The Taddict, under Cool Interviews.
With the amount of design mediums out there, it says a lot when a major design blog takes notice of a t-shirt designer. This was the case with the recent interview of an Emptees all-star, Matthew Skiff. You’ve inevitably seen some of his designs before if you have a set of eyeballs and know the difference between cotton and metal. Yes…his designs are that popular. I just decided.
Here are a few of his t-shirt designs:

Are you kidding me with those designs? He’s easily one of the top t-shirt designers out there which is why you need to see this interview to see what makes him tick. Check it out by clicking on the screenshot:
Farofa Nation Is Over The Top (0)
Published on September 8th, 2009. By The Taddict, under Cool Sites.
Do you remember when I showed you the Dripping in Fat site that blew you away with the flash product presentations? Well, I have another one for you that absolutely takes the cake. Farofa Nation is pretty spectacular from beginning to end as far as the website goes. They went all out and it shows in every detail.
Here’s a screen shot of the site (it doesn’t do justice until you visit the site for yourself):
After such an introduction, you might have certain expectations for the clothing line along the lines of multi-colored/high detail/bold etc. You’ll be surprised to find the line conspicuously understated in colors, print size and subject matter. This can be good or bad depending on your preference. The T Addict personally thinks some of the designs are worthy of some closet real estate.
Check ‘em out because if you read this far, then you have nothing else to do.
The Black Axe July Review (1)
Published on September 2nd, 2009. By The Taddict, under Cool Tees.
The Black Axe Blog just posted their July review the other day and like usual…it’s filled with some phenomenal work. This design collective is making a heck of a name for themselves in the t-shirt design world. The proof is in the pudding when you get a call from Sir Mix-A-Lot’s people asking you to design a tee based on his legendary song Baby Got Back.
Just a mention of the song reminds me “how I’m tired of magazines saying flat butts are the thing“. Ha! You see what I did there…just slid in some Baby Got Back lyrics. After all of these years, it’s good to see the song still gettin’ its cred. The T Addict loves it!

Coty Gonzales recently posted a really awesome list of 101 Science, Geeks, and Nerds related t-shirts. There are some really cool shirts in this list and 101 items on any t-shirt related list is always an accomplishment. If you love science, or know someone who does, check out these awesome t-shirts.
Dobi Gets the Tee of the Day (1)
Published on August 25th, 2009. By The Taddict, under Cool Tees.
The T Addict is a fan of the latest TOTD from Emptees. What is that you say? Why no, I am not tired of zombies or zombie themed t-shirt designs yet. Get over it. As long as I see talent and hard work, I don’t care if it is unicorns eating marshmallows. Now that I think about it, I would like to see a zombie unicorn to unite the best of both worlds. Before I keep rambling any more let me show you the tee of the day by Dobi:
The only question I have is the font selection for the name of the band? Is that the standard font that Fall Out Boy requires or what? Otherwise, I think that part needs to be churched up a little bit. Please let me know if I am missing something here.
DBH 10K Final Four (0)
Published on August 21st, 2009. By The Taddict, under T-Shirt Design Contests.
With only a couple of days left to vote on Design by Humans‘ second annual 10K design contest the T Addict would like to present the final four contenders. I don’t mind following th pack and posting about this (like every other t-shirt blogger on the web) because everyone wins with this kind of dough. I hope the coverage encourages all the other design contests to pony up some real jack once a year. Here’s what we’ve got for the final four:

This design by gloopz, called “SOS Straberry Flavour”, reminds me of a scene from 28 Days Later. The twist of course is that the guy in the biohazard suit is chowing down on an ice pop.

As soon as I saw this design, entitled “Twilight Rain,” I knew it was by CollisionTheory. It’s got the same trademark look we’ve all grown to love. Based on the description, and the title, it looks like this shirt might be a reference to movie.

“Journey to the City of No Horizon” by TangYauHoong is a really unique shirt. It’s cool how it runs the entire length of the shirt and uses the shirt itself so effectively as part of the canvas for the artwork. Very cool concept.

csj89′s “Mecha-Labaw” is a terrific all over print done as a massive representation of the Carabao, a type of Water Buffalo found in the Philippines. It’s really cool how the eyes stand out so much from the rest of the shirt.
So now that you’ve seen the Final Four hurry up and go vote on your favorite before it’s too late. Voting closes on August 23rd and according to DBH the shirts will be available for purchase on the day the winners are announced! At least we won’t have long to wait to snatch up these guys.
