T-shirt retailer Design By Humans likes Obama (4)

Published on September 2nd, 2008. By The Taddict, under Design by Humans.

Does this DBH labor day tee (of the day) have anything to say about which way the guys behind Design by Humans lean politically? Of course it does… was it the right thing to do however? They can print whatever the hell they want to, but what about the John McCain supporters? I think DBH should have stayed un opinionated on the political war and not even offer what most would consider not to be DBH material. Will they offer a McCain design for sale? doubtful I can’t even find a design submission that features John McCain (which will probably be an excuses not to print). Not very happy with the DBH crew lately. First they pretty much forget about their most recent design contest and don’t even announce a winner. Now they are only showing one side of the political battle. Tsk Tsk

Some related comments from DBH on this design:

Some comments mentioned how we should’nt bring politics into this, but i think the artists on here are free to use any subject that inspires them. & with Obama, how can you not be inspired by a man who accomplished & wants to do so much to better our country. Politics might be harsh at times & you may think there’s no place for it here, but its simply unavoidable. Politics is a very important thing in any society. Its how us, humans, come together to help create a better place to live.& hey, the shirts on here, are afterall, designed by humans

it would’ve been in better taste to have a mccain shirt to keep this site neutral? thats seriously one of the most ridiculous things i’ve ever heard. this is a t-shirt site, not msnbc.com.

“stop politicizing an amazing shirt that does not express support but merely commemorates an important event in american history: the first viable black candidate for president.”

Ahahahaha, there’s not enough “balance” among t-shirt designers?

Maybe you should find a decent pro-McCain shirt (good luck with that, btw) and post it instead of whining?

@sean
your entitled to your opinion – never said anything about balance among t-shirt designers. Read the post once more.

@Justin

I’m glad you are keeping DBH accountable for their actions.

It’s hard to avoid politics right now with the upcoming election and people are bound to show their colors. DBH has made a statement by printing this shirt.

The overwhelming amount of pro-Obama users at DBH and else where on tee shirt sites tells two things, “Design by Democrats” and a great understanding of their tee shirt target audience.

I have a strong feeling the shirt will not sell well. It is easy to vote anonymously for a design that makes a political statement, It sets a value to purchase the political shirt, and it takes a personal choice to wear the shirt. This reflects 3 different commitment levels for a person and their political views, but do DBH users really have those 3 levels of commitment?

I highly doubt it. I tend to vote for designs I like, but would never wear and I’m sure there are a great deal of others like me. I voted for the Obama design, but not because it was aesthetically pleasing or because I like Obama. I voted for it for the “see what happens” factor.

I take more consideration in candidates when it comes to my real vote, which I still haven’t decided on.
