Woody Allen sues American Apparel for 10 million! (4)

Looks like American Apparel is deep in the mud on this one. Woody Allen “is seeking damages of more than $10m (£5m) after a US clothing company allegedly used his image on advertisements (in New York and California) without permission.” The ad (pictured above on a billboard) is Woody dressed as a rabbi from the 1977 film Annie Hall with text written in hebrew which translates to “The Holy Rebbe” with the American Apparel text below. Apparently Woody was never contacted or contracted for this ad campaign and to me seems to have a pretty good chance of winning this case. Either way I still don’t get why they used this image for a Clothing Company in the first place. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

Well it’s seems that American Apparel released a statement and are saying that it’s social parody. I think that’s pretty obvious. This will probably settle and both will just end up with a ton of free press.
